The project is for the renovation of the San Pietro Igneo Hospital in Fucecchio for a new Emergency and Urgency Department. The program focuses on three main interventions: the creation of a new emergency entrance, the renovation of the hospital ex-cardiology wing and the design of a new volume for distribution spaces. In particular, the project creates a courtyard and a tower redefining the wing of the existing small hospital. The court provide order and light, the tower instead dominate the space, and stretch towards the sky. The tower enclose only a simple staircase, with some views. Going up and down, is more than just the practical dimension, it can be seen as the experience of light refraction as it descends to the ground. Tuscan light has a matter-related character, serene and soothing. It brings masses to evidence, it scans its shapes. It doesn't filtrate through branches, nor does it free the foggy views that get lost in the infinite prospective of plains. Here everything is finished: an elevation closes a valley; a corner closes the view of a street.
